Merry Christmas Eve

Happy Christmas Eve! we've been busy all evening preparing for the big day tomorrow. I can hardly wait for the girls to open their presents and meet their new pet. We Picked up our new family member on Monday and have been Hiding her in the Guest room ever since. Its been hard keeping such a big secret from the kids. I'm the kind of person who likes to give gifts more than receiving them. But my major down fall is I have a hard time keeping the secret I like my gifts to be opened immediately. Ive done a good job keeping Andrews gifts a secret but now that they are wrapped and under the tree I can hardly wait for him to open them.
I try to teach the kids about the joy of giving this time of year. We in turn don't spend alot of money on presents yet try and pick out a handful of fairly small gifts for them and make the day more about experiences and spending time with the family. Tomorrow after a morning of presents and a yummy breakfast we are going to relax watch Christmas movies Give the wee one a nap and then head to Point Defiance Zoo for a evening at Zoo lights. Should be a very magical day.
So Merry Christmas to you Hope your day is as amazing as I foresee ours to be.

Did you miss me?

I came across this blog I started and realized I haven't posted since last February! Wowzers!
Lets see Whats happened in the last year? Well Our 2 girls are a year older, smarter, bigger and much more opinionated than ever.
Giada has developed into this strong, sweet, nurturing, funny little girl. She is confident and well mannered. She is usually calm, well calm for a 2 year old. She enjoys playing by her self quietly and taking care of her many many babies. On the other side of that Keiani really is her best friend and they play alot together. They can become quiet noisy and crazy. Giadas has this unique way about her. Its a look she gives you that lets you know she knows exactly whats going on. One day out of the blue we were counting and she finished up and counted all the way to 15 after not previously counting at all. Same with her ABC's and shapes. She just blurts it out like shes always known these things. Usually leaves me slightly shocked but We've almost come to expect it with her and look forward to being surprised by her.
Keiani Grew alot physically and emotionally this last year. She has sprouted up and is one of the tallest kids in her class. Oh that's right She started Pre-k this year! She goes to School Mon, Wed, and Fridays from 9:30-12 and loves it. She enjoys socializing with her classmates and even has a crush on a classmate. I asked her the other day about her "crush" questions like do you play together? why do you like him? I found it funny that she doesn't actually play with this little boy just admires him from afar mostly for his brown curly hair. Its interesting to me how reserved and almost shy she is at school when she is so outgoing and loud at home. Once we walk into school she gets quiet and a tad clingy. I hope by the end of the year she feels comfortable enough to be her self a bit more.
Keiani has really changed from the toddler we knew this time last year. She is really helpful around the house and has started doing chores. of course those chores usually consist of helping clean up her own mess! She is still her same smart self though! she is easy to catch on and is doing so well with letter recognition and is even starting to piece together letters and form words, sounding out each one as she goes. I cant wait till the day she begins reading me bed time stories.
As for mommy and daddy well we are busy as usual. I started working part time, just 2 days a week. Its good and bad. I enjoy being out of the house and speaking to other adults but I miss the kids and my job can be a pain at times. When I'm home I'm usually always busy, cleaning, cooking, crocheting, or playing with the kids. Ive been having a hard time sleeping lately and have ideas to remedy it but not sure if I want to.
As for Andrew he has gone through the most. Although almost done with school it still tends to eat up most of his at home time which has become less and less since he switched jobs. He recently changed positions and stores and has been working over night for most of December. its been hard on him adjusting to a new inconsistent schedule. in addition to that he is still working part time at Olympic place and has been picking up extra hours there since the recent departure of his assistant. Its been hectic to say the least.
There's usually so much I want to blog about mostly just to vent :) So I'm going to try and keep up on it. We shall see.

Shake Your Cloth Booty

So In an effort to win a super awesome give away :) and share some love and supper cute pictures of my kiddos in awesome cloth diapers here you go!

My Favorite Cloth diapers:
Fuzzi Bunz
I used these with Keiani after testing alot of different diapers I found these were the best I had found at the time. Especially since I was fairly new to the cloth diapering world and didnt know to many other moms who did.
They are a pocket diaper with a soft cozzy fleece liner and a waterproof outter shell. you stuff them with any kind of liner but the one typically sold with fuzzi bunz is micro fiber

my new favorite:
Giada is my little Gbaby. Gdiapers is an amazing company with lots of customer support and really neat ecofriendly products. They are always coming out with new and exciting things.
They are the best of cloth and disposables since they give you the option of using either cloth inserts (we use) or disposable (flushable or compostable) inserts.

Another favortie: Snap-ez Eco Trainer.
We used these with Keiani as she was almost potty trained and still wearing Diapers to bed. These are great. they snap on the side and look just like pull ups with out the smell and cost problems. THey are great little pocket diapers which allows us the convienence to ajust how much absorbancy we need to add. Now that Keiani is out of these we use them on Giada every once in a while since they are a bit big still. Soon enough we will probably have to buy more when she is ready to potty train.

My Favorite soap:
Rockin Green Detergent.
Heres a description from the site since I couldnt say it better :)
Are you sick and tired of battling with stinky diapers?
Then Rockin' Green should be on your cloth diaper playlist! It comes in 3 rockin' formulas and tons of sweet fragrances, which is music to anyones ears.
Classic Rock: This is the sound that started it all. Our original formula is great for diapers and regular clothes. So use it on everything! This formula is designed for those with middle of the road water, not too soft and not too hard. When in doubt start with classic rock! Available in several yummy fragrances and unscented!
Hard Rock 2.0: This hard water formula is perfect for those that struggle with diaper laundry! Hard Rock 2.0 will blow you away! Available in several yummy fragrances and unscented!
Soft Rock: This is the formula designed for the most sensitive of customers! Designed for those with soft water, this formula is just the right mix of gentle cleaners to get the job done with less rinsing. Available in Bare Naked Babies (unscented)only!

Were to get all this awesome stuff?

A Running Start

Monday January 31st was our first official training day for the St. Patty's day 5k. The Target that Andrew works at decided to organize a training program called Couch-to-5k, a program designed to help beginner's get started and slowly build up to being able to run a 5k with in 6 weeks. I'd have to say that my first night with this group was a total disappointment. start times were posted at 6pm although when Andew called to confirm we were told we were meeting at 5pm. So we ate dinner really early and showed up slightly after 5. We figured it was early because it was the first day and they wanted to do introductions and maybe explain to people what was going to happen over the course of the next few weeks.
Upon our arrival we didn't initially see any one that would be running with us. after a few minutes we happened to run into 2 other girls that were there to run. 1 was an avid runner and the other was one of the group leaders. They greeted Andrew briefly and headed out side to get started. I had to quickly put on the girls hat and gloves (we were pushing them in the stroller) and head out to meet them. As soon as we got out side they started running. Um Hello? So we went along with it and were informed throughout that they just decided to run until they got tired then walk for a bit and just do that until they decided to quit. OK.... so.... We decided to bring the girls in the stroller because a general 5k training program has very little running the first day and we figured it wouldn't be bad to push it around. Well running the entire time with a 40lb child and  a 26lb child in the stroller is not the easiest thing to do. On top of that being out of shape didn't help. I'm not necessarily complaining but come on guys lets pick a plan stick to it and maybe communicate?
I'm still contemplating continuing to go to these "training" meets. perhaps a different day with a different group of people would suite me better. Or perhaps I will run on my own. I decided to download an app on my phone to track my distance, hoping it will turn into a great tool to track progress.
Regardless of the path I chose there is one thing that remains I need to loose this weight and have currently hit a tiny bump. Although I'm on week three and down 11.5 lbs I still have not lost anything in the past 6 days. Time to up the work outs and get moving.
I can say that I'm doing very well on my current diet though no simple carbs and limited caloric intake seems to be going well. although with this new workout regime I think I need to up my calories or Ill be stuck again. Wish me luck and from this point on I should be able to start including distance ran in my posts!

Its the end of the world as we know it and I feel fine

A few random thoughts and happenings:

+ We got really lazy about Keianis home schooling but recently I found her work books and she's been really into completing her pages. Just last night we finished her entire counting book. Today  we are doing her same/different work book. Love how much she loves learning.
+ We have realized that Giada is in desperate need of an evening nap and low and behold she slept through the night again after having a nice long night time nap.
+ I have lost a grand total of 11.4 lbs so far 2.5 weeks in
+ I did a very scary thing yesterday and took a before picture not sure I'm willing to share the picture but it will be a good gage for me to see what kind of change is happening to my body
+ I'm really excited to start running next week. A group of people from Andrews store are going to start training for the St. Patty's day 5k in March. We will be running every other day. Hopefully it will be a good work out and an opportunity to meet some people from the area.
+ Ive had a good time coming up with some good recipes that exclude carbs. So far some of my favorites are Chicken Fajitas using lettuce leaves in place of tortillas and lasagna with zucchini slices in place of noodles. Supper yummy :) I plan on trying out Tofu chocolate pudding for Valentines day. Should be yummy Ive found nothing but good reviews. I will have to let you know how it turns out!
+ Andrew and I get to have an afternoon date on Saturday, not sure what we are doing yet but regardless we neeeeedddddeeeddd a day out of the house together with no kids. it will be fantastic even if we just go for lunch.

+ Well I believe it is time to go clean the house, fighting the never ending battle! But we will come out victorious!

Guess whos becoming a big girl!

We broke the news to Keiani that her sister was no longer a baby but is now becoming a big girl. I'm not quiet sure Giada realizes this yet but soon enough. After 16 months of sleeping with mommy and daddy we have decided that it is time for Giada to move to her own bed. At times it seemed like such a good idea, like when shes nursed alllllll night long, or when she would kick Andrew and I in the face or climbed all over the bed in an attempt to get comfortable. We allowed both girls the same luxury of snuggling with mommy and daddy until it just wasn't working for one or both of the parties. For Keiani it was between 9 months and 2 years she slowly spent longer and longer in her own bed.
It was getting to the point that Andrew and I weren't getting any sleep and at least one day a week Giada would just kick Andrew out of bed altogether. I was starting to miss my husband and was getting uncomfortable with the fact that sleeping without him was the norm. This last weekend Keiani was spending a long weekend with Nana and we saw an opportunity to transition Giada to her new room.
Night 1: Ahhhhhhhhh! not a good night.... Giada was tired unusually early and was asking to go to bed a good 3 hours earlier than normal. Weird. Well I tried to stretch out bed time routine so we could still hit as close to bed time as possible in hopes that it would translate into a good nights sleep. big mistake... Giada went to sleep with just a few whimpers when she realized that this was not the bed she had become accustomed to. But after about 20 minutes she fell asleep and i had high hopes. 40 minutes later she was up and that lasted a good 2 hours. 2 hours of crying. it was spectacular. But I stayed strong wouldn't let her come to Mommy's bed and eventually she fell asleep. Unfortunately it didn't last long. at least every 30 minutes she was up and even with Andrew and I tending to her she was fussy, grumpy and discontent.
Looking back on that night I realize that the poor girl probably just needed a nap and that when she woke up we should have allowed her to get up maybe have a snack and play for that 2 hours instead of insisting she sleep. but it was a learning experience for every one.
Night 2: ahhh... but a good ahhh. We snuggled got a night time diaper on and read our books, said goodnight to daddy and headed to bed. Giada and I had a good long snuggle before bed this time. I rocked her a bit and sang songs and when she laid down in her bed there was barley a whimper. She relaxed and melted into her bed and quickly fell asleep. She only woke up about 4-5 times each time she quickly fell back to sleep and so did we. She was up at about 7 am and came to snuggle in bed with mommy and daddy. She nursed and magically fell back asleep till almost 9 am. I remembered what it felt like to actually sleep. It was glorious.
Night 3: First night sharing a room with Keiani. It was a bit disheveled. Keiani and Giada were hyper and excited to see each other and play and share a room. After books and such we all got to bed. Keiani was a little jealous that Giada was getting a bit more attention at bed time and made it know. But after much resistance from Giada she fell asleep. It was a rough night she was up a lot.
This was also a good learning experience for everyone.
We shall see how this night treats us lets hope everyone will soon fall into a good rhythm and we will all start sleeping a lot more.
P.S. down 7 lbs! yeah me.

Let's get physical

So an update on the ole diet. Well I started out Monday with a salt water cleanse. Never again never ever again. Gave me the worst headache and tasted like cr#p. I finished out the day on Monday doing fantastically well. I made homemade Tomato soup and asparagus for dinner. Very Yummy. Then Tuesday came...
Well Tuesday I got a very special visitor as to not cross the line of tmi lets just say i haven't seen this friend since I got pregnant with Giada. SO I started the day with a headache, still, and totally exhausted with no motivation. Started my day with a super smoothie (see below for ingredients), had some nuts and raisins for a snack mid day and a plate of steamed zucchini for lunch. then dinner rolled around and i was hungry and needing something other than vegetables so I ate with the rest of the family and had Chicken Fajitas. That being said really I only had some chicken with lots of green and red peppers with Lime. It was really good and I didn't eat the carbs, which tend to be my biggest diet killer. I also didn't have cheese because I had eaten some for a snack earlier that day. So far ending the day with a reasonable low calorie count and still eating healthy over all.
I decided that this was a good lesson in following what my body needs. obviously at this time my body was craving proteins so I fed it proteins. I plan on keeping this trend going. trying to fill my diet with lots of fruits and vegetables while adding in nuts, lean meats and lots of water.
As I don't own a scale I will let you know what kind of weight loss Ive accomplished when I get to one.
As far as exercise, I need to get off my butt and do some I'm just so exhausted but I need to push past it and do something other than house work. I know I will feel allot better in the long run if I do! So here's my pledge today 30min Cardio and 20 min strength training. Its not much but its a start then maybe if the snow is all melted by this afternoon I will either go for a jog or take the kids for a nice long walk.

Super Smoothies

about half a handful frozen blue berries
a few frozen raspberries
about 4 frozen cherries
about a cup and a half fresh baby spinach
about 3/4 cup plain Greek yogurt
juice and zest of one small orange
a half a teaspoon cinnamon
blend up and drink I usually have enough to share with Keiani and Giada as well and they love it!
I need to get some flax seed and cucumber to add to it as well.
A side note: it is also completely necessary to drink it with a crazy straw.

inspiration :)
